CALL FOR CHAPTERS

Introduction
Human-computer interaction (HCI) focusing on mobile technologies is one of the most rapidly advancing disciplines. New devices, concepts, and use cases are constantly being developed, making mobile HCI a “hot” topic. Designing the user interface/interaction for mobile applications is a very complex undertaking, given the rapid technological developments in mobile hardware and the diverse contexts in which mobile technologies are used. Not only is the design of the human-computer interaction for mobile technologies difficult, so, too, is the evaluation of such designs. Evaluation set-ups and techniques for mobile technology require as much consideration as the design of the technologies themselves; for the results of evaluations of mobile applications to be meaningful, the manner in which the evaluations are conducted needs to be the focus of considerable research in itself.

Teachers, researchers, and professionals of the discipline need access to the most current information about the concepts, issues, trends, and technologies in this emerging field. The Handbook of Research on User Interface Design and Evaluation for Mobile Technology aims to provide comprehensive coverage of the most important issues, concepts, trends and technologies in mobile human-computer interaction. This important new publication will be distributed worldwide among academic and professional institutions and will be instrumental in providing researchers, scholars, students, and professionals with access to the latest knowledge related to designing and evaluating mobile applications.

Coverage
To ensure that this publication has the most comprehensive current and relevant coverage of all topics related to the design and evaluation of mobile technology, we are inviting researchers, leading experts in their particular areas of research, to contribute chapters of 5,000 – 7,500 words that offer an in-depth discussion of key issues, concepts, and trends related to the development of usable mobile technologies and applications.

Invited Submissions - CLOSED
Individuals interested in submitting chapters (5,000 – 7,500 words) on one or more of the above listed topics (or other related topics) should submit one or more brief (75-100 word) proposals to the editor (jo.lumsden@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca) by no later than June 9th, 2006. We strongly encourage other topics that have not been listed but are related to your research interests and the focus of this book. Upon acceptance of your proposal, you will have until 22nd September, 2006 to prepare and submit your chapter (including 7-10 related terms and their appropriate definitions). Guidelines for preparing your chapter and terms and definitions will be sent to you upon acceptance of your proposal(s). You will be notified about the acceptance or otherwise of your proposal(s) by 23rd June, 2006. This book is tentatively scheduled for publishing by Information Science Reference (formerly Idea Group Reference), an imprint of Idea Group Inc., in late 2007.
